Just A Day

Today is Just A Day. A day to do whatever you want. A day to live in the moment. A day that I always remember my Uncle Justin.

Some people can’t help but make you smile. My tio made everyone smile (and laugh until they peed their pants).

His energy was infectious. There was always some new project to do or something to discover. There was dancing and singing and screaming. I’ll never forget the way he screamed–like a teenage girl but more masculine. I wonder if it started off as a joke, probably.

When I was a little girl he was the only one that I would let do my hair. He usually did something crazy too.

He often brought me gifts he found at thrift stores or dumpster diving. Things he thought were cool. A ring with a huge iridescent stone with little gems around it. A collection of little dolls from the 70′s. Interesting beads that I could make a necklace out of. A pretty piece of paper. A drawing he did of me–all glammed out 80′s style.

He was my mom’s youngest brother and the life of the party. He was an amazing artist. Everything he touched he turned to art. Everything he saw had potential. I will never forget him and neither will anyone else that met him.

Thank you for all of the joy you brought into my life, tio. I love you.
