Palm Springs is hot in the summer. Really hot. Since I grew up here I’m used to it. As my cousin said today on facebook: “How is it people still complain about the weather here.. If you were born here or have been here for over 15 years.. STFU! You’ve been acclimated.”
It made me laugh to read that. I does surprise me when people that have grown up here still complain about it. Even after being away for three years coming back to the summer heat was easy. I know what to expect and stay inside during the hottest hours.
Unfortunately for me today is one of the hottest we have had all summer and I had to run to the store for some cleaning supplies. I considered waiting until the evening but then I wouldn’t want to clean anymore. So I braved the heat.
My car happens to have leather seats. It used to be my dads or else I would have chosen fabric. As you can imagine leather seats in the desert are killer. I had to put a towel on the seat to not get burned. On my way back home I glanced down at the car thermometer and saw this:
It’s a scorcher out there folks. This is why I’m never hot. Until you’ve lived in the desert you don’t know what hot is.

Seriously. I heard that all the time in DC and just shook my head. I’ve gotten used to the heat but it’s still hot.

Good lord that’s hot!!! It’s like people in the Midwest when they complain about winter. I’ve lived here for 31 years and I’m acclimated but still complain about it. Damn that’s still hot though.

totally. After a certain point it’s just plain hot or cold no matter who you are. Us Midwest and desert veterans just know how to handle it.

For me, there has never been a period of acclimation to the heat. Summers in DC – I hated the heat; Undergrad in Florida (with two-a-day football practice) – I especially hated that; A miserable summer working in Boca Raton – an unspeakable hatred for that. I like to think that for some people, like me, response to climate is a matter of nature not nurture.
And not for nothing, but this city was just a touch more interesting when you were here.

I agree. I do know people that have grown up in both extremes and never adjusted. Eventually they moved to the opposite climate.
You are sweet. It’s good to hear from you.

DC summers are nasty, but that desert heat is far worse! A car’s thermometer should not be able to go to 119! Stay cool, Grace!

Last week we got a cold front here. And by cold front I mean it went from 105 to 95. But when I stepped outside in the morning just that small difference felt AMAZING.
